PETA's Giant 'Condom' Promotes Animal Birth Control For Valentine's DayFor Immediate Release: 10 February 2010 Contact: Nikunj Sharma (0) 9967766220; NikunjS@petaindia.org Date: Thursday, 11 February Time: 12 noon Place: Jantar Mantar, In The solution is as easy as ABC: animal birth control. Spaying one female dog can prevent 67,000 births in six years, and spaying one female cat can prevent 420,000 births in seven years. When people refuse to spay or neuter their companion animals, dogs and cats suffer and end up abandoned on the streets or dumped at animal shelters. Sterilised animals also live longer, healthier lives and are less likely to roam, fight or bite. "Millions of dogs and cats die on the streets every year or languish in animal shelters because there are not enough good homes for them", says PETA India senior campaigns coordinator Nikunj Sharma. "PETA urges everyone to always spay or neuter animals at home and in the neighbourhood, and if you're considering adding a dog or cat to your family, never buy – always adopt a homeless animal."
